(Narrative writing is slanted)

There are many meanings of the word "Hero." Hereos are mainly mistaken for what an infant might imagine. This definition of "Hero" has the person gain immense power. Power like teleportation, the ability to breathe power, or maybe even super strength. This is the story about the secret behind how these humans get these powers. The story takes place in a small town called Amberville. This is where we start...

The small town of Amberville was shrouded by a giant, shadow-like cloud that poured out millions of raindrops, coating the streets, roofs, trees, even humans who were walking around town at the moment in what seemed like an extra layer made of liquid.

The wind was howling insanely, shaking the trees violently, even making the doors and windows on a house shake back and forth. The wind sounded like a faint screech, the same wind that would pierce even the thickest of walls. The wind was blowing so hard that you would probably see the little waves of gray in the air.

A dark green car rolled up the street. Its highbeams breached the dark shadows and made a small, visible area in front of it. Large splashes of water shot up into the air as the car ran over the deep puddles.

Two people were sitting inside this car. The driver wore a brown-leather coat that overlapped both his black sweater and blue-jeans. He also wore a light green tie around his tanned neck. His black hair was short and thin. His keen, black eyes were focused on the street ahead.

The passenger was a teenage girl who wore a long-sleeved red shirt and blue-jeans, like the driver. She had a flat chest and didn't have any hips. Her brown hair was so long in the back that her hair almost reached the middle of her back.

"I don't know why you did that," the driver said, "why would you do such a thing?"

"I said 'I'm sorry,' didn't I?" the girl asked.

"Yes, but that won't cut-it! I don't believe that you knocked out another girl!"

"She was being ignorant. I think everyone felt the same way about her."

"That doesn't matter! Tomorrow at school, you're going to go right up to her and say 'I'm sorry,' right?"

"But, dad!"

"No 'buts!' You knocked her out and we're probably going to be sued!"

"We're not going to be sued, dad!"

"I said-"

"Dad LOOK OUT!"

The sounds of another car's brakes screeched. The dad floored the car's brakes to try to stop, but the rain kept pulling him towards the other car, as the other car did. The two cars collided and flipped over one another. Glass was broken, screaming was heard, blood splatted against the windows and made large puddles. Then, there was nothing. there was no more screaming, there was no more blood, just fire shooting up into the sky and quickly being doused by the precipitation falling from the sky. All that was left were the two cars, piled over one another, and smoke billowing into the sky.

It would've ended there, but it didn't. The two in the dark green car were injured, yes. But dead, no. The others in the other car were dead. As dead as a burnt tree. Why were the two in the green car still alive, you ask? Well, keep reading, and you'll probably find out.

Later that very same night, the sky was still shrouded in darkness, and the rain was pouring onto the road in a steady stream. The only lights that could pierce through the rain were the streetlights, that didn't help much, and the faint red sign of BIG JOE'S BAR, which was duller that the streetlights.

The decor inside BIG JOE'S BAR wasn't what you would say "good." The wallpaper was peeled so much that only the wood could be seen. The counter was scorched and had several deep scratches embedded in the surface. Tipped over glasses were rolling around uncontrolably. The seats were pulled out and some were tipped over like the glasses.

Two men sat in one of the last stools that were standing up-right. The one on the left was wearing a black suit was several vertical lines on it. His head was bald, yet he had thick eyebrows and a very thick goatee. The lips looked swollen, and his eyes had deep bage under them. He was looking blankly at the counter. His vision looked as if was fading away.

The man on the right wore a brown-leather longcoat, just like the driver in the car, yet he wore a brown-leather hat. He had brown sideburns, unlike the Driver. The rest of his body couldn't be seen, for half of his face was covered by his shirt.

"So, you hear about that car crash down by Crescent Moon Avenue?" the bald man asked.

The other man was unresponsive for a while. There was a long pause before he said, "Yes, yes I did hear about it. In fact, I saw the whole thing. Almost what you would call a 'Front-Row Seat.'"

"So, ya' saw it all?"

"Well, mostly. I only saw the beginning, but can you even imagine that two cars collided in such a way that two people actually made it out alive? And it was the two on the bottom car!"

"That is quite hard to believe, so that's why I don't believe it. There's no way possible that two of those people survived!"

The man with the coat placed two coins on the counter. He stood up and said, "It's starting to clear, better get home before it starts up again."

The man left without another word. As he opened the door, a fowl wind pushed itself inside. The door quickly closed behind him.

The bald man looked at the shadow of the man walking away. "What's his deal?" he asked as he turned back to the counter. "I guess I'll be going too." ; He turned around once again and saw that the man was gone.

The bald man walked to his car. He saw a small shadow below him. He turned around and saw nothing behind him. But, unknown to him, the man in the long overcoat was standing on the roof. The bald man got in his car and drove away.

"Hmm. So now I know I'm not alone. I'm not the only one who was the altered genome."

Wow. Great story. Very descriptive, and the way it ends keeps me hanging. Definately reading more when it comes. Wink

Intresting. Sounds like something to keep my eye on, although I have never been a fan of Marvel comics, and that is what this seems to me. Im going to wait a few more episodes before I make my final judgement on this.

(flash back are in bold and they are done in first person view of the person previously talking) Also, this is mostly a talking episode.

Chapter One
Power

"He's coming to," a doctor announced, "he's alive! Success!"

A man's eyelids slowly opened to a blinding white light. He turned his head left and right, like he was trying to find something.

"Where's Amanda?" he asked. "Where is she?"

"Your daughter is resting in the other room. She seems to be fine. Although, she seemed to suffer more damage than you, yet she healed faster. The strangest thing is that she had a broken leg, but once we took another X-Ray, we saw that it was back in place. It was a miracle for her," the same doctor explained.

"Can I see her?" he asked.

"No, Enus. We cannot wheel her in here."

"That's alright. Now, please, can you leave so I can get some rest?" Enus asked.

"Certainly, Enus."

Scrambling of doctor's feet were heard slowly fading away. A door opened and quickly shut.

Enus, miraculously, sat up with ease. He didn't wince while doing this, he didn't even hesitate in doing so. He just plainly sat up. Just like a regular, uninjured human would.

He lifted his hands up to his chest and stared at them. They were trembling tremendously. His eyes were filled with shock.

"Now I remember. It was just about fifteen years ago," he started.

I was twenty-five years old, and I was working in a Toxic Waste Factory. My hands were covered in Toxic Waste from an airbubble. I washed my hands, but it seemed to have already absorbed into my skin. About one year later I was married to my beautiful wife, Evelina, and together we made my unruly daughter, Amanda. In just two years we went from being seperate people all the way to the Wright Family. But, after an unfortunate incident that I do not understand, my beautiful wife died at the age of twenty-seven. I started to take care of Amanda and the wound of Evelina being gone went away. Amanda barely remembers her, I don't think she remembers her at all! Well, strange things started to happen when Amanda became three. She was riding her tricycle, but I accidently let go and she started careening down the hill. I raced after her as fast as I could. I almost caught up to her when she strayed off from the sidewalk and collided with a car. Her head was severely damaged. I didn't think she was going to survive. About a month later, I was given the several test results, and she was okay. This reminded me of that fateful day when I was entoxicated with that waste. I tested my theory of being immortal. I climbed up onto the roof while Amanda was at preschool. I jumped off of the roof and landed on the grass. I broke a few bones, but I didn't feel it. I quickly replaced my bones and became as fine as I was before. And now it seems that my daughter has the same ability.

"Father?" a small, timid voice called from the door. Enus turned his head towards a girl standing in front of the door. "Are you ready to go?"

"Yes, honey. But, when we get back, I have something to tell you."

"Alright. I think I know what it's about."

They both bobbed their heads up and down in unison. Enus stood up and followed his daughter, Amanda.

They came out into the lobby. Several people were just staring at them in shock. Whispers started to fill the small room.

"Dad, I don't like this place. Let's go, quickly," Amanda whispered.

"Hey! You're not supposed to be in here! You're not supposed to be standing at all!" a doctor yelled.

"We're alright, Doctor. We're fine to drive home," Enus reassured.

"Drive home in what? You don't have a car!"

"Oh, right," both Enus and Amanda said at the same time.

"Now, get back to your rooms!" the doctor commanded.

"Wait, before we go. I must tell Amanda something."

"Fine. Go ahead."

"Privately," Enus pointed out. The doctor back off and went to the Reception Counter.

"Are you really going to lecture me about that punch in this place?" Amanda asked in a low whisper.

"No. I must tell you about last night, when we were hit by an on-coming car. It seems-"

"We were hit by a car? That explains why we're in this place!"

"As I was saying. It seems that we both have 'special powers.' We are both immortal. I swear."

Amanda just stared at him in shock. "Seriously, Dad. You should go into the Novel Writing Business. That is the tallest tale I've ever heard."

Amanda started walking towards the Reception Counter. "No, Amanda, wait!"

"Alright. I am ready to go back to my room, ma'am," Amanda announced to the Receptionist.

"OKay. Name?" the Receptionist asked.

"Amanda Wright."

"Amanda Wright?" the Receptionist asked in shock. "You're the one who survived that car crash! Boy, honey, you're lucky to be standing."

A taller man in a brown-leather longcoat came in. It was the same man from BIG JOE'S BAR. He leaned up against the counter and greeted, "Hello. I'm here to see Amanda Wright."

"Really? What a coincidence, she's right here!" the Receptionist answered.

The man and Amanda turned towards each other. "Hello, Amanda," the man greeted, "I'm here to tell you about something. I am from the F.B.I."

"It must be special," Amanda chuckled.

"Oh, it is. But I don't think you'll understand a word of it!"

Enus came up behind Amanda and yanked at her shoulders in an attempt to pull her away. "Amanda! What are you doing? You can't talk to strangers!"

"Dad, stop. I mean it. You've been acting so weird lately. Why is that?" Amanda asked. She turned back towards the man. "So, you were saying?"

"We must talk in private." he said.

"OKay."

The walked towards the door and stopped in the doorway. The man turned to Amanda and put his hands on her shoulders. "Amanda, you are very special."

"Right. I heard that line before, pervert."

"No, stay here. What I mean is that you are one of those 'One-in-a-million' people. You have special powers. You are immortal."

"Right. Ya' know? Both you and my dad should go into the Novel Writing Business," Amanda mocked. She started walking away.

The man pulled her back and now whispered harshly. "I'm serious! You are immortal!"

"Prove it."

"You're going to regret saying those words. I am going to show you that there are such things as 'Mutant Powers.'"

The man shut his eyes tightly and his forehead started to turn red. Both the man and Amanda started to fade. Soon, they both disappeared.

Both reappeared in a Test Room.

"Nice effects!" Amanda complemented.

"They weren't effects. That was my power. Now, do you have highlights in your hair?"

"What girl doesn't?"

"Do you have any tattoos?"

"No. They disappear right after I get them."

"Hmm...any scars?"

"No. They also disappear."

"Well, this is a tight spot. I will need to test your blood by cutting your finger open."

"You're cutting my finger?" Amanda shrieked as she pulled her hand back.

"Not in half or anything like that. It's just a tiny cut. Almost like a paper cut."

"Alright," Amanda said meekly. She showed him her hand. The man took out a tiny pin and poked Amanda's thumb. He quickly took the blood and set it on a small, rectangular glass piece that he seemed to pull out of nowhere. He set it under a microscope and quickly stood back up to face Amanda.

"Take a look for yourself," he said.

Amanda peered into the microscope's eyepiece. She saw a purple blob that took up almost the whole field of vision. She stood up and said, "So?"

"Well, that is what a normal Red Blood Cell looks like under the same magnification," he gestured by pointing to a poster with a giant picture of the same red blob, except it didn't even come close to reaching the sides. "Your Red Blood Cells are abnormally large and have a type of mini-cell that's almost like the Mitochondria. This mini-cell energizes the particular cell that it is in. These mini-cells gives the Red Blood Cell the power to heal wounds quicker. And since you have abnormally large blood cells, they heal wounds even faster. You have even more cells that have the same properties. Bone cells, Skin Cells, Blood Cells, and beyond! This is why you are special, Amanda! This is why WE are special! You, your dad, even me! And there are others out around the world!" the man explained.

Amanda just stared at him awkwardly. She shook her head and asked, "Who are you?"

"Me? I'm Matt Thompson!"

"Hello? Who's in there?" a voice called from out in the hall.

"Oh no! We have to get out of here, or we're busted!" Amanda whispered.

"Don't worry," said Matt, "just promise you will not tell anyone besides your father!"

Matt shut his eyes and both disappeared again. The door flung open and the same doctor that kept coming up to Enus came in. He looked around the room and called out, "Who's there? Anyone?"

He started to walk out of the doorway and into the room. "This room is off-limits! If you don't come out, I will have to make you come out!" he threatened. "I'm serious."

The doctor's hands started trembling in his white gloves. He pointed it below the table. He started to wave his hand back-and-forth and soon a small cut in the metal floor. That cut was enlarged and soon made a hole in the floor. "That's what is going to happen to you if you don't come out now."

(five -s mean that the story is now in a different area of this world. Example: -----Dubble Town, Super Continent)

Chapter One; Part two
Power

And that, my friends, was only the start of the tale in Amberville. But, even though there were four humans with immortal power, that tale doesn't even scratch the surface of how many immortals there are in this world. There are so many more, even thousands are out there! Our next destination takes place in the Aeris Battlefort in the Technological Region of the Argentina Continent.

-----
Aeris Battlefort, Argentina Continent, Technological Region

A beige ruler smacked against a blackboard three times with a loud cracking sound filling the room. "Pay attention, class," a voice bellowed sternly. "Now, we are going to look inside a cell."

The class was that of seventh graders. They sat in brown chairs that were pulled out from under a black, square-like table. There were three rows and five columns of these depressing seventh graders lined up to form straight lines that almost extended to the back of the room.

Each seat showed what little attention-span these seventh graders had. The first column had the students who actually fell asleep and drooled on the desk. These students were most likely the F average students. The column behind them were the students who would act up in class by talking to each other. The third column were the C average students that just didn't do well on quizes and such. The fourth column were the B students who actually tried to pay attention in class. The fifth and final column were the smart do-gooders of the class; the people who were A average students.

Two specific boys sat next to each other. One was in the fourth column and was wearing an orange shirt with a strange, unidentified pattern of random shaded and non-shaded shapes overlapping one another. The rest of his body was concealed behind the black desk. His skin was bronzed and his face looked more stressed of an American face. His eyes were narrow and midnight black; the same color as his hair. He had very thin eyebrows, almost so thin that they looked clear.

The other boy was a "colored" boy who sat behind the first boy. His skin was chocolate brown with a tiny bit of a tint to it. His eyes were wide, unlike the boy in front, but were also midnight black. His hair was like a puffy basketball except all black. He wore a red T-shirt with the pattern of a dragon's shadow. Since he was leaning in to the desk, the rest of his clothes couldn't be seen.

The "colored" boy leaned in as close as he possibly could and whispered to the boy in front, "Hey, Toru! When do we get outta' this class?"

Toru simply looked back and did not reply. The boy tried again, "Hey, Toru, do you know when we get out of this class?" he asked slower this time.

Yet again Toru only looked back and did not reply. He looked back in front of the class. The blackboard has transformed into a picture of a green brick-like shape with a blue, pointed smile on the bottom and a small purple eye. The teacher leaped back and forth from one side to another to talk about the parts of a cell.

The boy tried once more, except with a different question this time, "Hey, Toru. You got a stick of gum?"

"Saigheed!" the teacher called out.

"Yes?" the boy replied.

"What is the peanut-shaped organelle in the cell?" the teacher asked.

"The Mitochondrion, Miss Guvver," Saigheed replied. "Oh, and can you please not call me Saigheed? I just want to be called, 'Eed.'"

"Eed? That's not a real name, Saigheed. How about just, 'Sai?'"

Saigheed groaned and slammed his back into his seat.

Toru raised his arm in the air and kept it still for a moment until the teacher realized it was in the air.

"Yes, Toru?" she asked.

"Um, this is just a question. What if someone made a sort of formula that could enlarge a plant cell's vacuole? What if every cell in the plant had an enlarged cell? Would the plant still be flammable?"

"That, Toru, resides in the realm of fiction. It isn't possible."

A low dinging sound now filled the room. Everyone stood up and filled the room with the fifteen kids that were once sitting.

-----
Amberville (West Side), Argentina Continent, Ore Region

No, we are not getting to the story of the Immortals, the teleporter, and the strange, mysterious doctor. No. We are going beyond the Hospital. We are going past the large mansions that only the rich could afford. We are even going past the Border Mountain that splits The East and West sides of Amberville. Wait, what? You mean you never heard the story of the Border? Well, that story is not for this time. The story that is for this time is a story that goes deep into the West Side of Amberville, or should I say "the Destroyed Side?" Our new story takes place in a destroyed building. Why was it destroyed, you ask? Well, that is yet another story that is for another time.

The West Side was almost completely opposite from the East Side of Amberville. The land was dry and brown. Almost every small building was toppled over and crumbled into pieces. Why this side was so desolate was because this side was the side of war. This side was the site of Amberville's buried secrets. The side that no one walks into anymore. The side where the Amberville warriors were buried.

Two cloaked people slowly trudged across the dead fields of the desolate West Side. Their cloaks were torn and tattered, revealing their white skin. They were both hunched over so their faces couldn't be seen. These people actually had a destination, though. Their destination was a building that was once a reasearch lab.

The building was now crumbled to the ground and was covered in sand. The only things that showed that it was a lab was a room filled with desks and microscopes and a small opening in the sand. The two man trudged inside and quickly disappeared into the shadows.

One of the two men took off his hood. The only hair that he had left was on the sides of his head, which were gray. His eyes were half covered by droopy skin. He had a scowl on his face.

"We're finally here!" he exclaimed.

"Should we commence the operation?" the other asked.

"We've been on the rode so long," the older man said, "that I forgot about our plans. What was our plan?"

"That we find a way to use our powers together and raise up the former army of Amberville!"

Immortality, teleportation, vibrations, possibly super smarts, and Necromancy? Powers can be good, but if in the wrong hands, powers can be distructive things.

Chapter Two
Smarts (Toru-centric mini-episode)

-----
Aeris Battlefort, Argentina Continent, Technological Region

One-by-one the children charged out the door, leaving the empty class behind. Toru gathered up his books and started to leave the room, but a voice shot out to him. This voice immediately stopped Toru in his tracks and made him walk slowly towards the front of the classroom.

"Toru," the voice shot out again, "I see that your grades have been slipping. Slipping so far that you may be moving up to the front two rows."

"But, Teacher!" Toru cried.

"Toru! It's not because you haven't been doing your homework, it's because you're starting to drift off into a fantasy realm. Your own little world. Your imagination is a great thing, but it's not a great thing if you start to slack-off in class."

"So, my imagination is pulling my grades down? So that means if I did all my work, which I do, and I imagine just a little bit in class, that means I will still get bad grades?"

"That's not what I mean. What I mean is-"

"Ms. Gubnuh, report to the office IMMEDIATELY!" a speaker yelled out from the corner of the room.

"It's Ms. Guvver!" she yelled back. "I'll see you tomorrow, Toru, and I wait to see that your imagination has been pushed to the back of your mind and your learning abilities pushed to front." And with that Ms. Guvver walked out of the room.

Toru's head sagged as he dragged himself out of the room, too. He dragged his feet down the almost empty halls and to his orange locker. He placed his left index and thumb fingers on a knob on the lock and wrapped his whole hand around the base of the lock.

He turned the lock to the left three times to four, right two times to fifteen, then finally left once to thirty-six. He opened his locker and stuffed his books inside, took out his red and beige backpack, and stuffed other books inside the backpack. He slung the backpack over his right shoulder and walked down the halls and outside.

The scenery outside of the building was the same as always: bleak and depressing. Even though the town looked lively with the technology and super computers, it still was one of the most depressing sites if you look past all of the technology.

Caged inside jailcells were dragons of several colors, most of which would rather die than stay here. In the sky there were large battleships firing at large targets for target practice. There were several sickly dragons twisting and loop-de-looping through the sky. Some of the dragons were even breathing fire upon the buildings, but since the buildings were made of a special metal, the fire didn't get through. Smaller ships fired at these dragons with smoke mixed with blood spurting out of the dragons carcasses. A typical day in the Aeris Battlefort.

The last small ship left the ground and darted down the street. Toru missed his bus. He started to walk down the street alone.

Toru passed several building until something stunning happened to him. An emerald green dragon with an orange fire blazing inside its eyes flew down to Toru and opened its mouth. An orange ball started to form inside its throat and soon a beam of an unrecognizable element shot out towards Toru. Toru jumped out of the way and rolled on the ground. The beam blasted open a window in a building Toru was once standing in front of.

The dragon didn't give up trying to kill Toru. It stopped the beam and started to fly towards Toru once again. The dragon gained its flight control and changed its direction towards Toru once more, emerging out of the smoke. Toru jumped above the dragon's head and ran across its back. He started to totter about its back and he fell off and scraped his chin and elbows on the sidewalk.

He quickly scrambled to his feet and ran towards the window the dragon broke. He looked inside the window and saw a strange sapphire locket. He grabbed it and held it up towards the emerald dragon. The dragon came raging towards him with great force, but suddenly came to a stop as Toru held up the locket. Toru shook the locket back and forth and the dragon's eyes followed it. Toru grasped the locket and hurled it over the dragon's head. The dragon jumped up and clenched the locket inside its teeth. Its teeth broke through the locket and a blue gas billowed out of the locket. The dragon's head plummeted to the ground with a loud thud.

Toru kneeled to the ground and rested his palm on the side of dragon's head. He rubbed the cheek back and forth while he slowly put his other hand near the bottom of the dragon's chin. He slowly pulled the bottom of the mouth away from the top part of its mouth and took out the shattered locket. He then shoved the several pieces of the locket on the top of its head. The dragon's eyes slowly faded and then shut tightly. The dragon was dead.
