Okay, so, the CCG scanlation project is on hold for a while...

I've also been talking to Bandai's Sales Manager since about yesterday or so, and if the ratings are good enough for the anime we might be able to convince Bandai to bring back the card game...

Highlights from the article:

FUNImation now has One Piece.

There will be 2 versions: A TV version starting at episode 144 of the original (105 of 4Kids's dub) that will be PG, and then the uncut episodes exclusive to dvd.

The guy running things on this for FUNI is actualy a One Piece fan and has been going to conventions for 5 years.

No clue on production schedule, but the uncut dvds will have 13 episodes each and released 2 or 3 times a year.

They'll be doing the dub over from episode 1, but for the moment they have to get it back on TV (Cartoon Network), so the redub from episode 1 might take a while...

They want YOUR help in deciding how to release the DVDs.

;p So Get Posting!

13 episodes a package sounds decent. It sounds good I guess. Uncut DVDs, AND the Dub back on tv. Not like it will be on Network Television, but its a start.

I hate buying single DVDs of something, I much rather have box sets. Like one being the Morgan and Buggy arcs, the next being the Kuro arc, then the Krieg arc, etc.

Makes it easier to buy, rather than buying just one DVD with a few episodes every now and then.

They're going to be putting out 13-episode dvds at a time, probably about 3 times a year, for around $50.00 each. That works out to slightly less than $4 per episode. If you want to wait for a box set itself, you may end up having to wait for a full year or more... (besides, considering One Piece's former 'failure', having a ton of dvd sales early-on might also convince Bandai that the card game is worth trying again. ;p ...of course, that'll only work if they sell out of their current overstock of the cards... but that shouldn't be a problem if we're advertizing the game~ )

Beats $50 for 4 episodes of sub-only like Bandai Visiual was trying to sell on some anime recently... Beats $20 for 4 episodes too.

Still, 4 bucks for a 23 minute episode? It just seems expensive. Maybe a dollar an eppy, 2 at the most.

I didn't mean to express it that way, but figure it like this.
You have a chance to see an episode of One Piece that you have already seen, but you have to pay $4 to see it. Do you think it's worth it?

But of course, there's no definate answer to this.

Maybe if it were an hour show, but 4 bucks an eppy is quite expensive. Take my favorite drama, Lost. It is 2x as long as an OP episode. The average season set costs between 40-50 bucks, and lets say that each season has 20 eps. Well, that still only comes out to 2something per episode, which means it should be half that for an OP episode.

Lets look at the 1st season of Yugioh. 80 bucks for 49 eps I believe. We're just going to say 50 to make things easier. Each episode is still under 2 bucks an episode.

So, 4 bucks for an episode of OP. That means that it will cost me over 1200 bucks to buy the episodes they already put out.

I saw the dub at my Aunt's house, and the dub was just as edited as usual. The rap had a short line for Chopper in it which ruined the rhythm for a few seconds, and there was a corny line from Tashigi as she was about to demote Sir Crocodile from his position as a Warlord:
"This boogie won't woogie after this noogie"
or something of that nonsense. I know it had all three of the "oogie" words, but that line made me lol that moment.
